A personal approach to care
Today’s healthcare system often leaves both patients and physicians feeling disconnected. Dr. Betten created Betten Integrative Medicine to restore the personal relationship at the heart of medicine.
By operating outside of insurance and large hospital systems, she is able to spend meaningful time with patients, build trust, and be available when questions arise. While Betten Integrative Medicine does not provide primary care services, Dr. Betten remains available to her patients for guidance and consultation beyond hormone-related concerns.
Life beyond the clinic:
Meet Dr. Karen Betten
Karen L Betten MD is a board-certified Family Medicine physician who is also board-certified in Integrative Holistic Medicine, with over a decade of experience caring for women using bioidentical hormone therapy.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Hope College and earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. Dr. Betten completed her Family Medicine residency at The Medical Center in Beaver, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh.
Through collaboration with other physicians early in her career, Dr. Betten was introduced to the concept of food as medicine and the understanding that true healing often requires more than prescriptions alone. This perspective led her to pursue additional training in integrative and functional medicine, as well as medical acupuncture.
Her clinical focus centers on preventive and lifestyle medicine, particularly as it relates to women’s health during perimenopause and menopause. Dr. Betten believes that optimizing health requires addressing sleep, nutrition, stress, movement, and root-cause imbalances — not just hormones.
